2 Février 2012 - Comment évolue le projet ? | :: Just a short message to send you a picture received this afternoon, sent by Stanzin Gayzang. It just arrived in Leh, Zanskar leaving the "Frozen River," the Tchadar.
One can see from the picture that our friends the canopy Icharpas have built this fall before the second tranche of the building Tokspo. They have worked well!
The "Tuition" (remedial winter) so will work now.
Rest assured the motivation of our friends of Zanskar and sustainability of our project!
Love to all!

Progress of the project | In September 2007, when we went back to Ichar, we noted that the boarding school was nearly finished... As a matter of fact, a few months before, the government of Jammu and Kashmir had released the funds required for the building. This confirmed that the villagers request was justified! We then had a lengthy discussion with the representatives of the commununity of Ichar, in order to decide how to reorient the initiatives of Tokspo. A dynamics, indeed, had been launched in France, and there was no question of letting it slip away. Furthermore, the announced objective of the association, written out in its statutes, is to contribute to the sustainable growth of the village. It was therefore quite conceivable to participate in another project, within this framework. |

Finally, we all decided, to launch the creation of a " solar school ", a building heated in the wintertime by use of the considerable sunshine existing in this part of the world. In fact, school holidays in Zanskar are scheduled (as is it all over Ladakh) in the Winter, when the temperature is too low (down to - 35°) to work correctly in the non-heated school premises. The children often have to work in the fields or in the " droksas " (the pastures), and their schooling is consequently rather abridged. Their parents therefore gather the money to pay the teachers for extra tuition for their children in January and February. This " tuition " is given in people's houses, in conditions which are not always ideal. This is one of the reasons for which the "solar school" of Ichar is going to be built. It will include five classrooms (see plans) in which the children will be able to work, during the winter, in the best of conditions (10 to 15 degrees at the coldest time of the year). The building will remain unused the rest of the year, when the public school is occupied. It will be used, for other purposes, for the village community. For example, the woman's association of Ichar could organise its arts and crafts workshop there. The conception of this school rests on the use of glazed surfaces, combined with a reinforced insulation of the structures and some processes designed to "trap" the heat, such as spaces painted black in order to absorb the calories provided by the sun. The plans and quote (650 000 rupees, approximately 13 000 €) were done by Phunchok Tachi, a civil engineer of Padum. |
